Educating, advocating and striving for European solidarity and inclusion
Start date: May 9, 2015, End date: Feb 8, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The European Youth Parliament Sweden has 20 years of experience in organising events to create dialogue between young people and decision makers. In the autumn of 2015 we are planning to organise a series of four conferences under the name "Educating, advocating and striving for European solidarity and inclusionin" in four different parts of Sweden, engaging hundreds of young people in european politics and connecting them with politicians and other decision makers. During the conferences participants will be divided into committees, each committee tackles a current European issue and has the task of writing a resolution with solutions for their issue to be debated in a General Assembly with other participants. Each participant represents only her or his own interest when debating and the result of the each conference; a booklet with resolutions, is meant to reflect the opinions of swedish youth from all different socioeconomic and geographic backgrounds. Politicians from different parties will be invited to take part in the conferences and to read and share the resolution booklets. Relevant media will also be invited to visit the conferences and write about the results. The European Youth Parliament has expertise within the field of non-formal education and experienced moderators from all over Europe will be invited to guide the committees through the process of creating the resolutions using the well-tested EYP-methodology. The objective of the conferences is to give young people from many different backgrounds a chance to learn more about current European affairs, express their opinions and connect with decision makers. The project will especially target youth from socio-economically and geographically vulnerable backgrounds and also aims to reach youth with disabilities. The results of the conferences will be shared with a larger group of young people through the European Youth Parliament’s teacher network, school visits and through digital means. Our vision is a society in which the opinions of young people from all backgrounds are listened to and taken into account by decision makers. These four conferences are hopefully a step on the way to making that vision reality.
