The "Education and Theatre" project is underway at the "Fray Luis de Leon” Public Secondary School in Salamanca. This public institution has around 1400 students from 12 to 20 years and 70 teachers. We find that students need to learn skills and competences which cannot be achieved during daily classes and standard curriculae. This project aims to provide equal opportunities for students to extend their abilities in creativity, self-esteem and new problem solving methods. The method consists of short pieces and performances in several languages (Spanish, English, French and German) which are created by students with the advice of their teachers. Classical or contemporary works may also be used occasionally. The multiple manifestations of theatre provide a valuable medium for learning to speak and perform in public. This allows them to develop a critical analysis of their immediate social context, access universal languages, and enter the international dimension by promoting foreign language skills and responsible learning. The project also aims to train teachers who can efficiently foster creativity processes and group leadership, organise exhibitions and meet professionals with similar interests and goals for future international collaboration.
