eCoLoRe - Creating Shareable and Renewable eContent Localisation Resources to Support ICT Training for Translators

The eCoLoRe project aims to improve the vocational training of translators specifically as regards the use of advanced ICT tools and the development of related skills, as required by modern business. The project will concentrate on e-content localisation i.e. the translation and cultural adaptation of digital information published on any internet platform. An initial needs analysis will be undertaken in the UK & DE to inform the subsequent design and creation of training materials targeted at trainers in academic institutions, professional associations and industry in addition to university students and practising translators.Activities will include the production of: translation memories (large databases of source texts and their respective translations); machine-readable terminologies (a by-product of translation memories covering a range of subject fields); machine translation output (multiple translations of a single source text); project packs (materials for translation, customer requirements workflows and timetables enabling students to undergo a complete translation project) and teaching/training guidelines (to support less experienced teachers/trainers).The end results, produced in EN & DE will be publicised via a dedicated project website, through project bulletins and newsletters, through introduction at specific courses and seminars, and in articles to relevant press and journals.
