PROBLEM: The project partners of Druskininkai and Grodno bordering regions are responsible for public tourism infrastructure improvement in order to attract more tourists to the border region and at the same time not to pollute it. The network of routes along the river Nemunas shall be the most appropriate places to use natural resources for the development of wellness, cultural and recreational tourism in complex, historical and functional approach. The complete reconstruction of bicycle paths and marking water route will form a unified complex of tourism services. The partners will cooperate in jointly attracting the visitors to the region.OBJECTIVE: The partners intend to encourage development of international tourism using environment friendly means of conveyance by improving public active tourism infrastructure in cross-border regions of Druskininkai and Grodno though the reconstruction of bicycle paths. Achievements: The partners have joined forces to make Druskininkai and Grodno more attractive to the inhabitants of the neighbouring countries. New pedestrian-bicycle paths were built in Druskininkai and Grodno Oblast, enabling the cyclists to travel from one country to another safely and comfortably. 51 kilometres-long water route was marked in Grodno Oblast.A seasonal little tourist-train started operating in Druskininkai.Tourism Strategy for Druskininkai and Grodno was prepared and a promotion bicycle trip for 40 participants was organised, during which the cyclists crossed the Lithuanian-Belarusian border. 24000 brochures with maps were prepared about the reconstructed bicycle paths in Druskininkai and Grodno.
