ECO-UNESCO - Exploring Cultural Diversity
Start date: Jul 8, 2009,

This project came about as a follow on from ECO-UNESCO's Youth for Sustainable Development peer education programme. From this programme the young people (aged between 15-18) were introduced to the Youth in Action Initative. The idea of completing a Youth in Action Initative had previously been suggested by a graduate group of the peer education programme. There are 15 youth currently involved in this project. The objective of this project is for the group to produce, direct, film, edit and promote a documentary style film on the subject of cultural diversity in Ireland and what knowledge/ lessons can be learned from other cultures and applied to our own society to help it become more inclusive and sustainable (socially, economically and environmentally). The theme of the project will be cultural diversity in Ireland. The programme is set to run for a period of 7 months with an additional period of 3 months to allow for the dissemination and evaluation of the project. It is expected that this will take the form of the documentry being submitted to a number of film festivals. The programme will be run from a number of venues ranging from editing studios to an activity centre. The methodoliges that will be used will be a mix of both technically facilitation (eg - using video camera's, editing, story boarding, etc) to more holistic faciltaiton. This will be done through Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) methodologies. For further information on ECO-UNESCO's peer education programme visit www.ecounesco.ie
