Start date: May 20, 2016, End date: Sep 19, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The need of the project. While working with children, youth and their families, we notice the growing gap between them and the natural environment: young people lack the knowledge of nature, its preservation and skills of enhancement, research experience in a natural environment. This eco-education project aims to make young people discover the natural integrity and harmony, foresee the effects of their actions on the environment and their feedback effect. Shrinking natural resources poses a significant concern for environmentalists. Therefore, by sorting waste and preparing it for recycling, we can contribute to the conservation of these resources. The goal - to raise environmental awareness among young people by promoting sorting household waste and by cleverly using secondary raw materials to contribute to the preservation of natural resources.Participants - 15-18 years old youth. Each group of 12 people. Here participates Lithuanian, Latvian and Polish youngsters with fewer opportunities (economic and social difficulties). Total of 36 participants.Activities - interactive lessons on ecology, consumption, climate pollution; educational activities about waste sorting, recycling, bins’ design; practical exercises to familiarize with markings on the packaging; raft production out of empty plastic bottles and raft race; creation of items and musical instruments from a variety of secondary waste (raising items to a second life); thematic tour around Samogitian national park, national gatherings and intercultural evenings by the fire with ecological picnic. Methods – get to know each other games, team building tasks, role-playing games, video presentation, public speaking, creative employment, hike, discussions.Project management. Communication with partners let us discuss and provide the role of each partner in the project, their responsibilities, and the division of tasks. This information and other organizational matters shall be stated in the protocol and sent to all the partners. The mandate is also signed between the applicant and the partner. Results - young people learn about other culture; improve the overall social and personal competencies; learn to responsibly look into the use of natural resources and conservation; learn to respect nature and its goods; develop the habit of sorting waste; establish and expand the communication and cooperation with new friends and partners.Impact. By becoming environmentally friendly, the young man will notice other mistakes, so he will encourage others not to pollute, to sort and consume moderately. This will have an impact on youth and its future: they will apply environmental awareness in their families. Learning to creatively use secondary waste, participants will be motivated to earn some money by selling products or take a small business, connecting like-minded people.Benefit. Young people learn about other European countries, learn to appreciate and understand the uniqueness of the parties, improve their English language skills, make friends, gain ecological, natural knowledge.
