Eco Food For/Of Eco Thoughts
Start date: Dec 1, 2012,

The International Youth Exchange will be a 7 days event taking place in Kotor, Montenegro gathering 30 participants from 6 countries to discuss and explore the connections between food-related habits of young people and sustainable growth of our society in order to increase green skills and motivate them to promote sustainable ways of living among their peers. Food is tightly tied to many aspects of life, such as culture, politics, agriculture, environment, etc. We intend to explore how an environmental-friendly attitude on a daily basis and the promotion of the healthy lifestyles can ultimately lead to to a more sustainable growth of our society and to personal well-being and development. We aim to use the great potentials of European tradition to develop a food system that respects the history and tradition of a local production and consumption but also biodiversity, environment protection and people's health with a positive footprint on environment. Participants will have the opportunity to learn some basic concepts of sustainable growth, green skills and the role of individuals' contribution towards the global environmental challenges and climate changes. They will be asked to present their own local traditions and family habits learning related to food consumption where the food is considered within its environmental, health and cultural implications, opposed to the mainstreamed standardization of the production and "fast food" habits which treat young peoples' health and intellectual capacities. Leaders will stimulate a creative learning atmosphere using non-formal education methodology but in the same time it will be accomplished with food presentations, exchange of traditional local recipes and ingredients and making up new recipes, etc. This will stimulate building of relationships, cultural exchange and encouraging a full involvement of participants in IYE but also in follow up phase as multipliers in spreading eco thoughts for/of eco food.
