Eastern Gate – solid pavement road connection between Garbolc and Bercu (Keleti Kapu/Poarta de est)
Start date: Jun 30, 2011, End date: Oct 14, 2013 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project refers to improvement of road infrastructure, generating an opportunity to develop the isolated settlements of the Hungary-Romania-Ukraine triple-border area. Creating public road connection between Garbolc and Bercu ensures the strengthening of the economic contacts and the regional activities and enables the access to the economic centres. The project improves the mobility of the communities and the access to cross-border services. The new cross-border road generates a significant cross-border impact. The project has a direct effect on those two settlements where road expansion will be carried out.(Garbolc 155 inhabitants, Bercu 622 inhabitants). Approximately 30 people would use the border crossing daily. This number would increase to 150 – 200 as soon as the seasonal labourers engage in their agricultural activity. On long term, the completion of the road combined with the elaboration of a micro-region strategy is expected to enhance the natural economic and cultural development of the area. The surrounding settlements will also benefit from the results of the project.
