CBS De Vaart is a small school in the countryside, counting 60 pupils. At this school, English is taught since the first year. By teaching children a foreign language at a young age, their proficiency and language sensitivity progress more quickly as opposed to if you start teaching children a language when they are older. When you teach children from preschool, and familiarise them with English culture, they will be more open towards other cultures.To be able to do this adequately a teacher from our school will participate in an intense training programme in Canterbury to improve the skill in the English language and the skill of teaching English to young pupils.To submerge the participating teacher in English language and culture he or she will reside at a local family.The knowledge gained during this programme will be relayed to the school's team during team meetings and workshops. The school's policy with regard to teaching English will also be adjusted to optimise the impact of this project.
