E-learning for Plastic Converters

Reason for the projectHundred thousands of unschooled or low educated people are recruited to work or are employed in plastic processing companies in Europe. The majority of these people are not interested in reading and studying, especially in long class-room training, needless theoretical or common explanations and manuals. They need direct and practical useful learning material.Main aims of this project1) Define a generic competence framework for injection moulding and extrusion companies in Europe based on amongst others the European Qualification Framework (EQF).2) Transfer the existing innovative learning material for plastic processing labourers of Vlaams Kunststofcentrum (VKC) to other competence levels and to a European scale.3) Disseminate the (intermediate)results of this project to plastic processing companies and education and training centres and prepare the exploitation activities of the partners.Characteristics of the partnershipThe project consortium consists of 5 European organisations from 5 different European countries (Belgium, France, Spain, Germany and Austria) coordinated by VKC (BE). Each partner represents plastic processing companies and has direct contacts with and access to useful information of the end users. All project partners have experience with the development and/or exploitation of learning material, especially with e-learning modules.Tangible and intangible outcomes of the project1) A generic competence framework for labourers in the plastic processing industry in Europe, describing per function level the objectives in different areas of expertise for injection moulding. Beside general transgressing objectives, the framework will take into account country specific objectives for the labourer.2) E-learning modules, based on this competence framework and on existing innovative learning material of Vlaams Kunststofcentrum, for 3 function levels of labourers in the 2 most important plastic processing techniques, injection moulding.3) In addition to the measurable results, it is important that partners will have cooperated, learned from each others expertise, systems and methodologies and also what means to collaborate at European level.Impact envisagedIncrease the number trained/educated labourers in European plastic processing companies and increase the knowledge and skills level of these labourers. The consortium partners are focussing in the first place on the 5 partner countries represented in this project, but expect to reach up to 67.000 labourers, other staff members, students and trainees with the e-learning modules in European countries by 2015.
