e-Learning Fitness
Start date: Jan 1, 2011,

Since formulation of the EQF-Fitness, there has been an enormous need to qualify the currently active fitness professionals who are affecting over 40 million Europeans through health enhancing physical activity as well as training and educating new instructors according to the EQF structure. However, due to distance and/or professional commitments, it becomes necessary to facilitate the training for all who operate as fitness professionals, overcoming the difficulties which prevent those living in outlying areas from participating in suitable training courses and continuing professional development. Open and distance learning is a flexible way for training and continuing education during the individual's free time. The first objective of this project is the creation of an eLearning platform based on the EQF-Fitness minimum standards for the existing fitness instructor occupations at the EQF levels that have been described in the framework of a previous project (EQF-Fitness). This eLearning platform will be translated into the languages of the core partners (12 languages) and tested on at least 20 people per core partner country. The second objective is the creation of a "pilot" national register platform for fitness professionals in 10 of the partner countries. Upon completion of the testing period, the successful participants will enrol in the Pilot Registers, which will also have been translated into the partner countries' languages. These participants will be able to interact and communicate, enhancing transparency and mobility among European exercise professionals. The ultimate impact will be raising the professional level of fitness instructors throughout Europe to the EQF-Fitness standards to safeguard the consumers and initiate a national network of professional registers throughout Europe, to last beyond the project's lifetime.
