e-Assessment of Learning Needs in SMEs

Targeting SMEs, the project 'e-Assessment of Learning Needs in SMEs' will develop an e-assessment tool for use by trainers and training developers that can assist companies' and employees' development as part of a 'learning strategy model'. By offering a flexible learning tool, the project allows SMEs to take control of employee training and learning rather than rely on more traditional outsourced training packages that are often targeted at larger companies. The project also utilises informal learning as a characteristic of SMEs. Having explored existing diagnostic tools and learning strategies available for SMEs, the project looks to develop a software tool, alongside a paper-based tool, that can address the learning needs of and select a learning strategy for SMEs. These instruments will be aimed at trainers and training developers in SMEs. Following initial application, the instruments will be evaluated with respect to their application in different countries and in different SME sectors. A description of 'good practice' and critical success factors for SMEs using the instruments will be made available via the project website and handbook. Other dissemination instruments include a CD-Rom and two conferences during the lifetime of the project.
