Draining inland and storm water - Újszentiván - Novi Knezevac (DrainStorming)

Csongrád and North Banat Counties belong to lowland border areas. This causes many difficulties for the settlements locating there to drain excess surface water and rainwater accumulating in wetter years. Both the region and the individual settlements made significant efforts in favour of the communities to strengthen the security of real estates and other movable properties. Újszentiván and Törökkanizsa have been cooperating for many years; they are working together within the framework of two cross-border projects at the moment. Drainage management is a common problem, therefore they decided to submit a joint application. Within the framework of the project, the infrastructure of drain system could be continued, for which both partners have already had all necessary plans, permissions. A conference on water management would be organized for settlements of the region, and Újszentiván would get the plan of a stormwater detention pond holding a capacity of 50 000 m3 to be designed.By these activities the project aims at contributing to the reinforcement of cross-border relationships and multilingualism, sustainable development, and to the formation of a more liveable environment, and its implementation ensures unconditional equal opportunity. Cooperation between the partners will reduce isolation at national,regional and local governmental levels. Main target groups of the project are represented by the local governments of the partners, the inhabitants affected, settlementsof the border area in similar circumstances, as well as the construction sector of the region. The total budget of the project is 650 000 EUR, 455 600 EUR of which would be granted to the lead beneficiary, whereas 194 400 EUR to the project partner. The budget has been completed by taking account of the partners’ optional financial participation. The project is due to start on January 1, 2013, and last for a period of 16 months.
