DOSAM – Development of generic occupational standards and the promotion of mobility for dental technicians

The main and concrete aim of the project is the promotion of an innovative European dimension for the professional sector of dental technicians: they are actually concerned with the problem of harmonisation of the different curricula defined by the national educational systems. This means that the training models greatly differ in contents and diplomas, plan the acquisition of different skills and competences, limit therefore the opportunities for professional mobility, cannot guarantee the same levels and quality in the field of health care. The sector, at present, is represented by a great number of small and medium laboratories and more than two hundred thousand employees who need a more coherent system to promote mutual recognition, to develop generic standards accepted in all European countries, to define criteria and characteristics of best practices, to meet all European clients’ expectations. The different work phases of the project aim at designing the needed different qualifications and professional profiles, at providing clear and detailed information inside a wider professional network strongly concerned with mobility, at identifying the individuals’ training needs and the core competences / skills, at elaborating module-based learning approaches. The originality of the project is in its effects in a field which continuously and rapidly improves, updates, and changes its methodologies, instruments, tools, approaches: comparison and standardisation of generic and specific training systems, professional mobility, mutual recognition of outcomes and results can concretely raise transparency levels, increase safety, produce innovation.
