Don't Look at Me Like That
Start date: Sep 20, 2014, End date: Apr 19, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

As volunteers , our main point in designing such a Project is to create awareness by calling attention to the troubles of people with autism in terms of their adaptation to social life, the deficiencies in education and thedifficulties that their parents experience. In the scope of this Project, comparing the facilities and outlooks towards autistic people within different countries, we will examine the emerging shortcomings. With the information and support that would be taken from Autism Training Center, various activities will be carried out and an inside view of autism will be brought upon. Tha activities envisioned at this stage are: 1-We will have a meeting with our participants adressing to our cause and watch some interesting videos about autism. 2-Along with the support from the schools of autism in our country, we will participate in different activities ( like excursions in nature, drawing and painting walls with autistic children) and get to know autism in different cultures. 3-Organizing a concert at the University for calling attention to autistic individuals and involving in kite festival, we will try to ensure a unity between the young and the autistic. 4-The movie named “Temple Grandin” whose plot is about autism will be watched with the young and the participants and with organizing culture nights and a trip to Gürün, they will know different cultures and a sense of communion with each other will be achieved. It should be realized that due to some characteristics observed in autistic people ( aggression to corrupted system, focusing on only one thing, avoiding eye contact, repetition of nonsense words, dislike for changes, repeating stereotyped behaviors) society is needed to change its manner and viewpoint towards this kind of people and their families. It should be pinpointed that since there are some autistic children who have ignored skills and superior intelligence (mental calculation, advanced level of playing an instrument without education, etc.), these children are to be noticed, rendered a service, and supported to promote their skills. Families of these children play the biggest part to reintegrate their autistic children into the society. In order to support families, it is needed to explain how important it is to see autistic people as to be integrated into society rather than putting them out of sight. Starting step to change the viewpoint of society is to emphasize that the young needs to be knowledgeable with autism, and it should be noticed that there are not enough devoted experts to educate autistic people. An increase in the level and quality of education and an accurate communication within the society are important and necessary steps to remove loneliness of autistic people. With the activities that we have with autistic individuals, and the share of the documents that will be obtained from the surveys, people will recognize the fact that those people could participate in social life as well. To Understand different approaches towards autism in different part of the world and to destroy prejudices. To provide information about how to have a healthy communication with people with autism and their families To help people with autism in their having a place in social life and better their conditions
