Don Bosco Groot-Bijgaarden Secundair Onderwijs verzorging : gluren bij de buren 4
Start date: Dec 1, 2014, End date: Nov 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

NL: the whole class We would like to offer our 7th grade child care and elderly care students the opportunity to exchange experience in their specific field of interest with people from their neighbouring country. Our preference for The Netherlands is on the one hand due to the Dutch native speech, which makes it easier for the students and for the employers to communicate with each other. On the other hand, this country has a well-known leading position in child and elderly care, where in the first place, the interest lies with the clients. Because this last point of view on child and elderly care is not yet very developed in Flanders, we want to offer our students the opportunity to work in an institution with a distinct vision on centralising the client. The students choose an institution to do their internship, in agreement with us, out of a thoroughly selected list of institutions. This list is composed by the BPV-coordinator of the ROC, Amsterdam. Only institutions with a good quality and a good way of approaching child and elderly care were included. We expect our students to get in contact with different, alternative methods of care and to transfer this experience to their future job experiences in Belgium. Our Flemish institutions, offering internship possibilities, are very interested in the surplus of this experience abroad. The project is managed by the coordinator of the study Health and child and elderly care.. The work is supported by the school management and all teachers assisting in preparing students for work placements and evaluation. The practical teachers have done the most work to prepare the placement. The other teachers are busy with the cultural preparation and organization of the householding. The content is strongly related to the content of the internships in Belgium and is integrated in the internship module of the 7th grade. This experience abroad and Europass Vlaanderen will offer a more complete curriculum to the students. The students will be prepared during their 7th grade, starting in September. This preparation will be part of the classes PAV, religion, French, physical education, expression and of course the practical classes. In this preparation courses, the students will get information about their internships, about Amsterdam and about The Netherlands in general. We choose for a project abroad because we believe that this will be very enriching for our students in different aspects, other care accents, other cultures, and independency… The internship will take place at the end of April-beginning of March. The close contact with our Dutch colleague makes it possible to have a good interaction about what we need and what they can offer. Already for the future, there are plans to make the offer of internship possibilities even broader. We have a 5-year experience in this specific collaboration and every year, the project improves. It is a unique experience we can offer in our education and is to our opinion a very important one. Sweden: selected group of students We want to offer the opportunity to a selected group of students to do an additional internship in Sweden. This will support their development in their job and in their independent, young life. We would like to send the most motivated and most independent students. This will ensure the positive exchange of experience and knowledge.
