Diseño de pruebas, evaluación, estandarización de criterios y certificación en lenguas extranjeras según los niveles del Marco Común Europeo de Referencia (MCER)
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our project was originally aimed at developing and improving the design of Certification Exams and enhance the reliability and standardisation in the assessment of those exams. The participants in the project set out to obtain practice and a greater experience and skill in regard to the process of standardisation and adequate application of the linguistic competence levels established in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The recent establishment of the C1 and C2 levels of the CEFR in Spanish Official Schools of Languages makes the above mentioned even more necessary than ever. The members of our project are the teachers Gabriela Pérez, Elena Alonso, Fátima Costas, Laura Biosca, José Antonio Tarazón and Giovanna Tonzanu, all of them with broad previous experience of European programmes abroad and in the assessment of our Certification Exams. The presence of two members of the management team, Fátima Costas (secretary) and Giovanna Tonzanu (Head of Studies) underlines the school's commitment to improving the skills of its staff. In July 2014 Gabriela Pérez and Elena Alonso attended a two-week structured training course in NILE, our partner institution called “TEA2 2014: Testing, Evaluation and Assessment”. After that, in November 2014 Fátima Costas, Giovanna Tonzanu, Laura Biosca and José Antonio Tarazón did a one-week tailor-made training course in the same institution, in which work focused on more practical aspects of assessment in order to improve the quality and reliability of the Certificates issued by the Official Schools of Languages. It was then that it became apparent that reliable and standardised evaluation can only be possible if assessors have good-quality assessment grids at their disposal. And by comparing our own grids with some used by other European Education Administrations, we came to the conclusion that ours needed completely reworking. Between February and April 2015 several dissemination, training and standardisation sessions were organised in our institution as part of the "Proyecto de Formación en Centros de la Conselleria d'Educació de la Generalitat Valenciana". In May 2015, as part of our project dissemination, we organised a two-day workshop in EOI Valencia on “Standardisation of the Oral Expression of B2, C1 and C2 CEFR levels”, led by Dave Allan, co-director of our partner institution NILE. In November 2015 Gabriela Pérez, Giovanna Tonzanu, Fátima Costas and Laura Biosca travelled back to Norwich for a week-long job shadowing stay in NILE which included one day at Cambridge University Press, observing the way they approach evaluation and standardisation processes. Moreover, during the stay we started to design new assessment grids for the Certification Exams in the Valencian Community. In January 2016 José Antonio Tarazón participated as speaker in a one-day training session in EOI Elx during which several Schools of Languages in the Valencian Community gave updated feedback on their on-going Erasmus+ projects. In February 2016 our Erasmus+ project team organised a one-day training session in EOI Quart de Poblet called “Proposal, piloting and analysis of a new assessment grid” in order to finally disseminate the most significant long-term product of our proposal: new assessment grids. As a consequence of this training session, in May 2016 a meeting took place between members of our team and the education authorities of the Valencian Regional Government to broach the possibility of modifying both the Written and Oral Expression assessment grids used by assessors here in the Valencian Community.
