Discovering the Archaeologists of Europe 2014
Start date: Oct 1, 2012,

Professional archaeology in Europe is being confronted by the issue that – • archaeological practice is under economic pressure following the effects of the global financial crisis and this is particularly affecting employers’ abilities to invest in VETSecondarily,• it is difficult for individuals to move transnationally because qualifications are not universally recognised This project will sustain a Thematic Network of organisations with shared concerns for the delivery of VET in archaeology, by- supporting close links between VET to working life in archaeology in order to make VET more responsive to labour market needs, and - improving sectoral identification and anticipation of skill needs and their integration in VET provision.Partners will collect data from sectoral employers in their own state, identifying VET priorities, and will then present recommendations using this evidence to VET providers. Key data will be presented in a transnational report which will combine results from 19 participating states. This will support the dissemination and implementation of common approaches, methods and tools linked to the New Skills for New Jobs initiative. The project’s results will positively impact upon the target groups of employers and workers in European archaeology, advisors for future workers, employers planning for future skills needs, VET providers and political decision makers. It will achieve this by:- identifying labour market information and trends, including training investment needs and skills shortages- establishing the number and profile of archaeologists working in each state- providing employers with information to aid business planning and improve organisational performance- providing individuals with information to help develop their careers- supporting VET providers with information on employers’ needsThe Network will continue operating beyond the period of EU funding and additional organisations can join mid- or post-project.
