Discover yourself through others in Malta !
Start date: Jun 17, 2014, End date: Oct 17, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

"Discover yourself through other in Malta" gathers 24 youngsters aged from 15 to 17 and coming from Italy, Germany, France and Malta. Just like Malta which has a lot of influences in its culture, the group represents a lot of different backgrounds and realities in Europe. Some of those youngsters are not always given the time to ask questions, express their opinion and share their feelings. Therefore the four partner organisations, Associazione Giovaninsieme from Italy, Arbeit und Leben from German, Roudel from France, and the Local Council from Mgarr in Malta decided to implement this project where the youngsters are taking decisions on the objectives and the activities of a project at a European level. Active and participative methods from the non-formal education are therefore used for every steps of the project to motivate and implicate the youngsters as much as possible in the preparation and the implementation of the activity. The project fosters on intercultural dialogue, overcoming cultural barriers, bringing into questioning the participant's own point of view in order to find out and share common values. It focuses on identity and intercultural learning in order to try to answer to the kind of questions youngsters ask about who they are, where they come from, who are the others and where do they come from. This can enable them to think about preconceived ideas they have in mind like stereotypes and work on them. Team building, sports and creative activities will also give the youngsters the possibility to express themselves in various ways. This is all linked to the cultural and historical discovery of Malta and with a focus non the importance of youth mobility and active participation in Europe. The youngsters will gain or improve their social, creative and linguistic competencies with this project and will receive a Youthpass attesting of the gained competencies. They will make a short video about their experience in Malta which will circulate on the Internet and social medias. This will ease and emphasize the peer-to-peer communication which is very important to motivate other youngsters to participate and be active at a local level too. Having more young people involved at a local level can attest of the quality of the work the partner organisations are implementing. It can moreover strengthen their relations at a local, national and European levels with other youth-related institutions. New partnerships and new projects that are related to the youth realities can then rise and come directly from the youngsters themselves.
