Disability Awareness - a New Chalenge for Employees

DARE stands for the name of the project whose full title is Disability Awareness: a New Challenge for Employees. The long-term objective of the project and the DARE Consortium is raising public awareness of disability and the way people with disabilities function in modern (knowledge-based) society.Disability awareness means a solid knowledge of the subject, combating stereotypes, as well as providing information on methods of active support. It includes appropriate assistance that is based on an objective assessment of disabled people in various spheres of social life. This approach does require commitment on the part of society and disabled individuals themselves, yet brings major benefits to both. The DARE project brought tangible results in the form of training courses raising disability awareness, in the first instance, with academic teachers and public administration staff in higher education settings. The DARE Consortium regards these two groups as professionals requiring particularly effective support in the form of training since they have a major impact on shaping public attitudes. This training equiped them with a solid knowledge related to disability issues and strategies. The DARE training packages are divided into materials for the trainer and materials for the training participants. There are separate packages for academic teachers and public administration staff so as to ensure maximum benefits of either group’s participation in the training. The final conference was held in Krakow 22-23 October 2009www.konferencja.dare.eu
