DIPS - Distance Learning Approach applied to Enhance Introduction of Intellectual Property Rights in Management Strategies of Enterprises

The project aims to enhance awareness of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) through creation of a distance learning course for SME owners & employees and for business students, to be complemented by a tutor training module. Poor awareness of IPR is found particularly within SMEs and public research institutions.Partners include IP experts within the public and private sectors in addition to educational institutions. A 40-hour modular course is to be developed in EN, FR & ES, with course contents suitable for contact teaching and for integration into degree courses but with further potential for adaptation for distance-learning. Modules will be tested in a variety of different learning situations, across the partner countries, and will be subject to extensive evaluation to meet ECTS (European Community Course Credit Transfer System) standards. The training of individual tutors will be particularly relevant to private IP consultants.Outputs will consist of both a training concept and course materials, the status of which with regard to IPR will be determined in the course of the project evaluation. During the project, information sharing will target University students and will make use of partners' privileged contacts with enterprise managers. An international seminar and a promotional brochure are envisaged to market project outputs.
