DINARIS

The lynx vulnerability present a solid basis for establishing the cross-border cooperation in nature conservation. With the DinaRis project the awarness was raised on its biological and social aspects, new tools for joint monitoring of lynx population were developed and partnerships were established at the highest scientific and management level. All the above resulted in the drafting of a proposal of joint strategy for the lynx population management, representing a first document of this kind between Slovenia and Croatia. Achievements: The results of the project are: an analysis of the quality of lynx habitat, the food availability and competition; a model of population dynamics and analysis of survival capacity of the lynx population in the Dinaric Mountains; a study about the possibility of lynx population monitoring using hair traps; a study on the lynx population genetics; a study of the ecology and status of prey species in the project area; a study on human attitude towards the lynx and the extent of knowledge about it; a common strategy for managing the lynx population in the Dinaric Alps; a common portal for registering data on lynx sightings; a bank of lynx genetic samples; a bilingual website for the promotion of the project and dissemination of results; and other promotion materials, such as educational brochure, exposition and a documentary film on the lynx in Slovene and Croatian.
