Digitalized – Youth Camp on Transparency and Security in the Digital World
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Nov 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The youth exchange between German, Belarussian, Ukrainian and Romanian young people aims at strengthening the digital competences of the target group by sensitizing them to security and transparency related issues when working in the NGO sphere.Since youth initiatives and organizations often use free software for data administration, online data management and PR, these sources can be affected by security issues. Since the law is different in every country, data safety and the rights to personal data has to be considered carefully especially in international projects.Transparency as the second main topic of the camp focusses on the importance of a democratic and transparent way of working that NGOs have to observe in order to gain trust, credibility and constitute an example for public and private institutions alike. This project targets young people interested in getting involved in an initiative, project or initiative their own activity concerning social issues, environment or culture. They should be interested in intercultural exchange and to learn from their international peers. They are interested in new technology, IT, online tools for youth work and projects and want to learn more about security issues and data safety when organizing international projects together. The programme of the youth camp will consist of input, exchange, exercises around these two topical spheres, combined with an intercultural approach to learning. Participants will have the chance to get to know not only insight into the topics but learn about the countries and places the others are from and experience the chances of non-formal learning in an international context. The participants of the event will have gained significant knowledge and competences in the field of on-line tools for project management and data administration. They will be sensitized to the importance of transparency and how a transparent way of working can help their projects and initiatives. They will understand the legal aspects of data security and the different ways each country handles these questions. They will also understand which tools can be safe to use in more extreme situations of state control. On the other hand, participants will have improved interpersonal skills regarding intercultural communicaation, listening, observing, working and learning in a team. Furthermore they will gain or enhance their appreciation of diversity.
