Different Generation Network
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Nov 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Different Generation Network (DGN) project aimed to (1) establish a a global network of youth organisations dealing with transitinal justice (TJ) in post-conflict and post-authoritarian societies, (2) provide support for the establishment of TJ mechanisms to address human rights abuses in post-conflict and post-authoritarian societies by looking through the prism of the youth as the creators of the future, (3) Build up credibility and capacity to influence national and international policy-makers on TJ, (4) provide education and technical support to organisations dealing with TJ in post-conflict and post-authoritarian societies, (5) Start up programs to provide training and volunteer opportunities for young people working, or looking to gain experience in TJ and development cooperation. Two EVS volunteers, nationals of Spain and Ukraine participated in the project and together with Youth Initiative for Human Rights Croatia undertook activities to reach the objectives. The volunteers were introduced to the main idea behind DGN and sharpened the concept. They mapped the post-conflict and post-authoritarian countries globally and data mined for organisations that deal with transitional justice with a focus on youth organisations. Research into the political and economical contexts of the targeted countries was undertaken as well as research into the state of civil society and TJ organisations to better understand the needs of the organisations and the capacities of DGN for supporting these organisations. Volunteers created a possible organisational structure for DGN having with a focus on functionality and answering the TJ youth organisation needs. In order to assure sustainability of DGN the donor landscape was researched and volunteers made a data base of prospective donors. Volunteers contacted the mapped youth TJ organisations in the targeted areas and countries and received feedback on their needs, focuses and ideas for DGN as well as sent a publication on DGN to the organisations. Results of the exhaustive research efforts undertaken by the volunteers benefited YIHR's organisational knowledge and assured a better understanding of the donor landscape and the state of youth TJ organisations in the world as well as YIHR's own capacities to offer assistance to other TJ organisations world-wide.
