Διαθεματική αξιοποίηση Εκπαιδευτικής Ρομποτικής
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

2nd Ergastiriako Kentro has been working on Educational Robotics since 2009, participating in numerous National Competitions, Robotics Olympiads and organizing several day conferences, seminars, workshops and competitions of its own. Since 2012, we have created a Robotics Center with 17 complete ΝΧΤ and 5 complete EV3 robotic kits (donated by the Municipality of Rhodes), which we lend to every school in the South Aegean region that shows interest in robotics (e.g. Afantou Junior High, Tilos Junior High, Lipsi Junior High, 1st and 2nd Naxos Junior High, Syros Technical High, etc.), giving them also every possible technical and knowledge support. From 2013 since 2016, our school has organized day conferences and several robotics workshops, after school hours, in order to activate teachers both from the elementary and from the secondary educational level. All the material is available through the school site and through the school channel on YouTube. 2nd E.K. has organized the Regional Robotics Competition for the South Aegean for three consecutive years now, in June 2014, April 2015 and June 2016. Finally, through robotics, we have been an active part of the MENON network for school innovation. The basic idea of our proposal was the education of four of our teachers on advanced Educational Robotics subjects, in order to be able to use robotics in an interdisciplinary way, e.g. in the Natural Sciences area. Additionally, by involving and educating our teachers through this program, we were able to make connections between our school and other educational organisms in Europe and improve our teaching methods. Our participants had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with colleagues from other European countries. The teachers who participated in the present mobility already had basic knowledge and experience on Educational Robotics and the idea was to educate them on more advanced subjects. Specifically, we focused on Natural Science concepts, which are part of the Greek High School curriculum, and are, therefore, part of the everyday school reality. Before the mobility, we had contacted several school Consultants for Natural Sciences as well as the E.K.F.E. of Dodecanese and Lesbos, in order to pinpoint concepts which had so far been taught theoretically, but are very suitable to approach and study with the assistance of Educational Robotics. After the mobility, there was collaboration between our educated teachers and other teachers of Natural Sciences. This collaboration caused a diffusion of the knowledge and skills that our teachers obtained during the mobility. We expect that new teaching methods and tools will be developed and we will find new ways of teaching Natural Sciences. Our findings will be stored in an appropriate repository, so that we will gradually move away from purely theoretical ways of teaching and towards a more experimental and interactive approach of scientific concepts.
