Greek Educational System, examination centered to a great extent, does not cover all the modern educational needs as they are defined by the constantly changing social and political framework due to the economic crisis. We, as teachers, need to differentiate the educational processand adjust it to the characteristics and needs of the students of our school. Our school is in an area which suffers from recession and as a result a great number of the students comes from socially sensitive groups and different cultural environments. They fail to embody to the school community and they usually quit school at an early age becausetheyhave financial difficulties, language problems andthe family environment does not always support them. We discussed in our school the need to act in anintervening and preventive way and came to the conclusion that our participation in the programme would contribute decisively towards this direction fulfilling certain aims. Our objectives for the project concerning the students are: Teaching of foreign languages, creation of a friendly school environment, prevention of early school quitting, active learning, promotion of tolerance and prevention of racism, acceptance of what is different, acceptance of multiculturalism, contribution to the cultural principal of the young people, formation of active citizens with flexible minds. As far as the teachers are concerned, our objectives are: training in teaching models which will promote the acceptance of the “other” identity, coexistence, interaction and exchange of pedagogical tools. Three Foreign Language teachers and the Domestic Science teacher will participate in the project. They are all trained in modern teaching techniques and sensitized in cross-cultural education. They will operate as multipliers within the teacher group and will coordinate the projects in which the other teachers will get involved. We will organize cross-curricular projects in which teachers of different specialties and students will have the opportunity to take part, meetings with the help of the School Advisors and activities with collaboration of other entities. The pedagogical approaches that have been chosen for the project aim at both personal and social development. The project method, emotive learning models, group work, cross-curricular approach, intercultural counselling, theatrical game and simulation games will be used for the performance of our aims. We expect that our participation in the project will function as a feedback of our professional skills and will increase our self-confidence as teachers. It will also contribute to the proper management of mixed classes and the involvement of teachers of different specialties. Students will make the most of the stimuli they will have received for their future life.
