DIALE Deep learning through dialogue

The premise is that effective learning and teaching require better than normal skills in dialogue. This has been the result of, for example, many studies concerning cooperative learning. Dialogical competence include many sub-skills which support shared thinking and performing. The goal of the project is to develop the dialogical competence of trainers, teachers, teacher trainers and in-company through concrete methods. The development work is based on extensive research and a web service that supports the training of dialogical competence. This service will be translated (EN) and the "Deep learning through dialogue" (www.hamk.fi/dialogi) service will be developed further to include methods for the practice of dialogue and its application. These methods will be developed throughout the project phases, including piloting and feedback. The method descriptions will be a significant addition to the service both nationally and internationally. The development and assessment work takes place according to the principles of assessment circle (arviointikehä). Internal evaluation relies on Kirkpatrick's (1998) model. The project was designed by principal lecturer Helena Aarnio, in cooperation with the Research and Development team. The partnership consists of two universities of applied sciences, one vocational institute, a multi-field network of in-company trainers and 2 private education providers. The partnership represents comprehensively the field of vocational education. The partner countries have reported similar need for the development of dialogue in mentoring, consulting and education. A concrete result will be the translation of the web service into English, method descriptions of dialogue learning and assignments, training programme and other online material related to learning dialogue, including videos of training sessions (Youtube). The target group of the products are vocational teachers and trainers, in-company trainers, further education trainers and students participating in the piloting in various organisations. Intangible results include the development of dialogue competence of the participants, the partners and stakeholders.Competence in dialogue are central in creating deep learning experiences and in participating in such learning situations.
