The 10th Primary School of Limassol (K.B.) – Chalkoutsas, is located in the Municipality of Mesa Geitonia, one of the poorest municipalities of the city, and it was built just before the Turkish invasion in 1974. While previously thought to be one of the best schools in the city, in recent years the situation has changed dramatically. The population of the area now comprises of a large number of workers, low-paid private sector employees, unemployed but also a large number of foreigners. This has significantly lowered the socio-economic and educational background of the school students families.A fairly high percentage of students does not speak Greek as their mother language, leading to difficulties in teaching the Greek language and creating problems in the communication between the students. The different cultural background causes tensions and conflicts that lead to racist, xenophobic attitudes and social exclusion. In addition there is a large percentage of students who face financial difficulties while others come from single parent families. These families receive financial and psychological support from the Red Cross, the Welfare Office, the Association of Parents and the School itself. In order to address the various problems arising from the operation of the school, a number of educational mobilities have been selected in various European destinations. From the hierarchy of the problems priority has been given to the most important resulting in two strategic axes. The first strategic axis includes issues around interculturalism and multiculturism, justice and the inclusion of all of our students in the learning process. This axis also includes issues concerning delinquent and problematic behaviors.Specifically, referring to the axis, it seems that there is an imperative need for: - acquiring recent knowledge (theoretical and practical) about multicultural issues and the inclusion of all students in school life - acquaintance of modern methodological approaches and teaching methods- acquiring knowledge, skills and abilities to create a new policy plan based on justice, equality, respect and mutual understanding of the "other", diversity- Getting to know other European education systems and good practices- improving our knowledge on the various techniques for prevention, detection and treatment of problematic and delinquent behaviors. The second strategic axis focuses on information and communication technologies by embodying them in classrooms. With our participation in the training courses we hope to: - become updated on current developments in technology within education in the different countries of Europe, and in addition- be able to design courses with the use of technology utilising web based tools to run online courses - learn how to operate programs such as Weebly, the WebQuests and Web 2.0 technologies - study cyber security matters of the Internet- expand our Network with European organizations. The intention is that these seminars intend to attended by six permanent teachers, who form the action group KA1 of the school. The group was established following their own desire and initiative for participation in the Program. Their active involvement is a result of their personal need for lifelong learning since they aim to improve their work performance. Upon completion of each mobility each one of them will become a multiplier of knowledge, skills and experiences, diffusing the many learned for the benefit of the entire educational community. The courses were chosen very carefully and methodically so that their content and philosophy contribute greatly to the achievement of our objectives. Certainly there will be constant and regular communication with the organizers of the seminars before and after carrying out the mobilities. This will assure, that not only the content of the courses and the timetables will be adhered to, but also that any procedural matters will be arranged so as each mobility to be carried out in the best possible way and comprise a pleasant, useful and unique experience for each and every participant individually. The task force will ensure the diffusion of what will be acquired at the meetings to the rest of our school colleagues, other neighboring schools, as well as executives of the District Education Office of Limassol. Relevant information about the evaluation and results of our actions will also be provided to the Association of Parents and Guardians of the school, in order to keep them informed about the usefulness and impact of the trainings courses in the teaching process. At every stage of realization of the school action plan, there will be constant updating and contact with the management team, since the success of the project largely depends on this cooperation.
