Développer la culture européenne grâce à l'étude de sa littérature jeunesse.
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Pontaumur School is located in a semi-mountainous rural town. The capital of the region, Clermont-Ferrand, is located 40 kilometers from our school. Being so far away from the largest city in our region our students do not have easy access to the cultural opportunities that Clermont-Ferrand has to offer. Our project is to develop a way for our students to better understand the European culture through literature. Through this project we hope that our students will have the opportunity to connect with other schools throughout Europe. Our goal is for our students to develop a comprehension of the English language and a better understanding of the European culture. The hope is that our school’s international connection will open up a door for our students to have the ability to learn about the way of life of other students throughout Europe. Giving our students this opportunity will also allow them to share what they have learned with their families and friends within our community. This will create a stronger sense of culture and unity here within our rural town. All the classes in our school are going to be involved in this project. There are three teachers who are candidates for the mobility: the director of the school, the teacher’s trainer, a teacher who specializing in working with children who have difficulties, the teacher leading the project, and also the main teacher’s trainer. To implement this project, we intend to create exchanges between 6 European countries around children’s books, or youth literature. These books, all of which are written in English, will teach the children elements of linguistics and culture as well as nourishing the exchanges between students from different countries. A schedule of activities, which will be prepared in collaboration with the participating schools before the project commences, will act as a guide for everyone and optimize the period of the mobility. The short-term benefits of this project will be to impact the students, the teachers, and the school’s image. In the long-term, we hope this project will allow the school along with all the people involved to remain in the dynamic of this European opening.
