The aim of the Building European Environmental & Maritime Skills (BEEMS) project is to stimulate the growth and development of environmental and maritime skills within the offshore wind energy industry. In order to improve the economic viability of the renewable marine energies sector, and more particularly the offshore wind energy sector, the BEEMS project seeks to adapt those skills that are already available in companies to the needs of the offshore wind industry and to develop training programmes in this field. Achievements: There are several offshore wind farms on the UK side of the Channel, and similar sites are planned on the French side. 5 Interreg projects are addressing this issue in a multi-disciplinary way. BEEMS is promoting MRE skills training to launch a unique and recognised training certificate, whilst providing businesses with information and advice on how to diversify their involvement in the offshore wind industry.
