Development of the Waste Water Treatment Plant in Letenye and the sewage system in the south-western part of Town Prelog (PRO MUR)

The general objective of this 24-month long project is the development of landscape in the Mura area and its natural and rural surroundings to create a more sustainable and naturally valuable environment.The specific objective is the reduction of polluting discharges into the Mura river, surface waters, protecting and improving the quality of the water environment and the whole ecosystem, in compliance with the objectives of Water Framework Directive and Urban Waste Water Directive, fostering co-operation among institutions and the objectively informed public. As a long-term result, better quality of sources of drinking water is expected, as well as the protection of health of inhabitants, drinking water from waterwells Prelog in Međimurje and a protected flora and fauna.The objectives are expected to be achieved by the development of sewage system in the Mura area, specifically in Letenye and Prelog thus decreasing pollution of ground water via a safer, better and cleaner waste water system. Achievements: The wastewater treatment plants were developed by the border community of Letenye on the Hungarian side and the sewage system in the town of Prelog on the Croatian side of the border with the goal of achieving a higher level of environmental protection in the common area. The implemented investments aff ected the lives of the inhabitants of the border region positively, providing them with higher quality drinking water sources and a cleaner natural environment as the applied technical solutions will decrease signifi cantly the pollution of the river Mura.
