Development of the rescue services Poland – Ukraine within the strenghtening the infrastructure of cross-border management system of natural hazard (IPBU.02.01.00-14-177/10)

The general aim of the project is to strengthen protection of natural environment and environmentally valuable areas in the east part of Masovian Voivodeship and in the Volyn Oblast as well as to protect the habitants of these regions from the . The neighbourhood of these areas causes a direct influence on functioning of ecosystems there: the connection of the rivers and forest complexes, migrations of animals and vegetative transport of plants. Threats appearing in the transboundary area in the form of companies possessing dangerous substances and urban and agriculture areas causing fire and toxic threats for forest complexes and waters indicate a need to constant monitoring of threats and preparing for quick removal of catastrophes in order to limit losses in the natural environment. The project aims to increase rescue services capacity, improve threat monitoring and crisis management. Thanks to the project cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian rescue services will be broadened.As a result of the realization of the project will occur an increase of a speed of activities connected with threats analysis, quicker and more efficient use of forces and resources for limiting catastrophes caused by leakages of toxic substances from industrial infrastructure and vehicles, fires of forest complexes and green areas as well as companies. Services will recognize threats quicker and reach events quicker and limit their consequences, what in the result will decrease damage caused by the environment, population and economy. The realization of the project will decrease in this way a risk of the natural environment contamination in the transboundering area. The project includes purchase of specialised equipment as well as trainings and experience exchange. Expected Results: Polish-Ukrainian platform was created to develop cross-border natural hazard management system. This enabled Polish and Ukrainian rescue services to effectively analyze and synthesize information on and deal with potential hazards. New methodology was adapted and new specialised rescue equipment was purchased.
