Development of the Narva River water tourist routes and integration into the Baltic Sea small harbours network (Narva River Water Routes)

The 'Narva River Water Routes' project is aimed at development of water tourism in the cross-border area between NE Estonia and NW Russia with further integration into the BSR network. As in the last years there grows an interest to travel by boats along the river because of picturesque nature and close location to the Gulf of Finland but there is no developed water routes for tourists, no information on leisure activities on water, not sufficient information about Narva, Ivangorod and Kingisepp that are known for their historical places, it has been decided to develop active water tourism in this cross border area. Boat tourism will assist the regional development, attract more tourists and visitors as well as foster regional economic development converting the region into the area with highly developed tourism and tourist services, thus enhancing the creation of new working places and contributing to the economical potential growth. The project partners are municipalities of Narva, Ivangorod and Kingisepp and Ivangorod Centre of sustainable development. Target groups of the project are local authorities as harbour owners, boat tourists (foreign and domestic), tourist agencies of the BSR area and transborder population. The project main actuvities are:Management and co-ordination; Development of safe water routes along the Narva and Rosson rivers, implementation of navigation and environmental surveys in order to secure safe boat tourism and work out measures to protect nature from possible environmental damage; Improvement of the ports infrastructure, equipment of ports with modern equipment including video-control, Wi-Fi, organization of recreation areas for tourists, setting up waste management system to avoid pollution; Promotion of water tourist routes via Internet (website), printed materials (brochures, maps), articles in local mass media and in special tourist magazines of the BSR area. Main outputs: 5 partner meetings; 3 progress and 2 final reports; 1 Communication Plan; 1 navigation survey and 1 environmentalsurvey/ partner region; 1 feasibility study on development of 2 water tourist routes/ partner region; 2 press-conferences, 2 articles; 2 press-releases/partner/year; website; 2000 brochures /partner region, 1 promotional kit / 500 pcs/partner region, 2000 water tourist schemes/partner region. Results: High involvement of all project partners in project implementation, high level of project awareness among PP and stakeholders; feasibility studies on 2 safe water tourist routes implemented, harmonization between environment protection objectives and boat tourism promotion achieved. Ehanced safety of sailing and berthing, improved port infrastructure. Enhanced ecological waste management, pollution eliminated. Updated navigation and tourist information. Developed water tourist routes. The project successfully implemented. Achievements: Progress reportThe 3rd reporting period lasted from September 01st till December 31st, 2007. In general project activities were implemented according to the elaborated schedule approved by all project partners. Plus to the planned activities the Overall project coordinator, Financial manager and Project manager took part at Interreg/Tacis seminat in Pushkin in November 2007. It was useful from the piont of view of reporting, visibility. Project partners continued orginising working group meetings regarding development of water tourist routes, implementation of navigation studies on the developed routes and ecological studies on developed routes. By December 2007 Interreg part of the project was finalised. All in all the project partners had ' 7 working meetings (ERDF part) in Work Package 2 organized. 86 participants took part in them. ' 2 working meetings (Tacis part) in Work Package 2 organised. 20 participants. ' 2 working meetings (Tacis part) in Work Package 3 organised. 6 participants. ' 4 working meetings (Tacis part) in Work Package 4 organized. 22 participants. ' 1 Terms of Reference was worked out for implementation of ecological studies on developed water routes in Estonia. 1 contract signed. (ERDF part) ' 1 tender dossiers for implementation of feasibility studies on setting up a new yacht marina in the mouth of the Rosson River prepared. (Tacis part) ' 15 MoMs of working group meetings in WP 2 , WP 3 and WP 4 prepared and disseminated among PP. Navigation and ecological studies on developed routes were finalised by the Estonian partner.
