The river Vadakstis divides Akmenė (LT) andDobele (LV) districts between two states.Since the old times on both sides of theriver there lived lots of people speakingLithuanian and Latvian languages and alsoa number of mixed families were created,however the communication across theborders decreased due to the borderpassing formalities.The project fosters members of localcommunities in Lithuanian-Latvian borderzone to communicate actively throughcultural activities, to find the peculiarities anddistinctions of neighbouring culture.The project benefits local inhabitantsand NGOs that establish close personalcontacts and learn more about each otherslifestyle, cultural and religious traditionsby participating in joint training seminars,festivals, meetings and summer camps forvillage children and youth. The culturalcooperation is expected to continuebased on the prepared strategic plan fordevelopment of cultural activities for 2006-2009, collected data and information onneighbouring culture and publication of theinformative booklet.
