The project was instigated by two circumstances. Firstly, the school has initiated a major strategic development project where the focus of this year is on developing and strengthening staff competences. The project has been initiated as a consequence of major challenges faced by the school due to substantial budget cuts and the forthcoming educational reform. Secondly, it is the wish of the School Board as well as management to strengthen the international approach of the school and that our goal to educate our students to become competent world citizens is advanced and given concrete expression. The goal of this two-year KA1 project is to extend our strategic development effort. Year 1 is to entail a joint field study trip to Finland . External lecturers, focused school visits followed up by workshops will initiate change and secure stability represented in the set of fundamental values of the school as well as in the relationship between national and international aspects in the school. Year 2 is to be more practically oriented as two departments (history and social studies) have been selected to go to Euroclio (conference for European history teachers) and to VIP courses to Brussels organized by the CFU and the European House in Copenhagen in order to strengthen professional competence and knowledge of a particular European area. The two departments were chosen because they represent relatively large subjects and therefore often participate in cross-curricular activities, which will result in more subjects being able to benefit from the competences acquired. Taking its starting point in a broad strategic perspective in continuation of a strategic process already launched at the school the project is continued in more concrete part elements of the professional competence relating to a specific subject.
