Design your experience - LARP
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Apr 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project is based on the need of critical thinking and tolerance to differences development among today's young people. Young people very often change their opinion very quickly, they are often influenced by various opinion groups, including radical ones. Their attitudes often contribute to raising tensions. It is difficult for them to respect different opinions, look at the problem from different point of views, and avoid hasty conclusions and prejudices while working in the group. In our work we have discovered that one of the greatest and also the most difficult challenges of non-formal education is influencing attitudes that are an integral part of the key competencies development. The main aim of the project is to provide youth workers with larp as a form of education, which, based on deep experience, effectively affects attitudes. Larp is a specific type of games based on role playing. In these games, every person assigned the role of a character s/he portrays in the game. Players create the game and the story themselves, they aren't limited by the script or the director. They decide what their character will do, how to behave and how to cope with situations entering the story with various intensity. The main objective of the project is to increase the competence of youth workers in creation and implementation larp as an effective method of non-formal education of young people.Sub-objectives of the project are following:- make youth workers familiar with the process of making larps,- teach participants to use larp story for the development of key competencies of young people- Show participants different ways of indtroducing larps and show them their specificities,- To create a series of themed larps especially with the topic of the common values of freedom, tolerance and respect for human rights, - each participants how to lead a reflection in the end of larp,- to set up a basis for the Czech-Slovak larp community non-formal education and other related projects that will spread this method to other countries.Because of the topic, this project is divided into two activities - two training courses. Both training courses will be held in Ostrava. Training courses are designed for youth workers who directly work with target group of young people. Participants should therefore be youth workers of any age who want to develop their knowledge, skills and competencies in using larps as a method of education, and who have a space to use the skills acquired in the training courses in practice. There will be 20 partcipants - youth workers/per training course. Due to the complexity of creating and introducing larps we decided that the first project, which is focused on larp, will be organized only in the Czech-Slovak cooperation in order to enable participation of youth workers from both countries, who have a language barrier in a foreign language. Reduce language barriers will help us to work more in details on individual larp stories. There will be two training courses within the projects:A1 - The first training course will focus on creating larps, basis of design thinking, the choice of topic, construction of a story, creating roles.A2 - The second training course will focus on introducing larps, work with atmosphere and following reflection. In the meantime, between both training courses, participants will create larps in groups according to assigned topics and in the second training course we will practically test their impact on the target group.Youth workers develop their competence in implementation larps as an effective way of non-formal education of young people. They will gain experience with larps and their design, they will become familiar with the whole process of introducing larps, with the creation of an environment, with closing of the game and the subsequent process of reflection. They will try larps directly on themselves and gain direct experience with the implementation of larp. Beyond these specific knowledge and skills, the participants also develop many other key competencies - the ability to group work, communication skills, problem solving, creativity, presentation skills. In addition, they will gain new contacts with people from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. All created larps we gradually draw up and make videos and photos of them. At the end of the project we will have a comprehensive material with all larps, which will serve not only to all participating organizations, but we will share it with other organizations that work with children and youth and would like to start with larps as well. We also want to establish other following international projects and expand the method larp in other countries.
