Desarrollo de las competencias comunicativas en un entorno cultural europeo
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The school Ramiro Izquierdo has belonged to the Network of Multilingual Centers in the Valencian Community for four years. We teach our subjects in Spanish, Catalan and English in the three educational stages: Nursery, Primary and Secondary School. Furthermore, we offer German as an optional subject in Secondary School. Currently, we are teaching three subjects in English: Visual Arts Education, Citizenship Education and English as a foreign language. Our goal is to teach Physical Education in English in Secondary School as soon as possible. We would like to improve our CLIL methodology in the non-linguistic subjects that we teach in English and discover new methodological approaches for teaching and learning foreign languages. We want to give a European dimension to our school by taking part in the Erasmus+ K1 and K2 projects. We have presented the idea of participating in these Erasmus+ projects to our teaching staff and were able to recruit three teachers in Secondary School who are interested in taking part in the project: 1) Our P.E. teacher, who currently has a B1 level of English and is working on getting a B2 level in order to teach his class in English. 2) Our Visual Arts teacher, who has a B2 level of English, teaches her class in English and would like to obtain training in CLIL methodology and 3) our English and German teacher, who has a C2 level of English and a B2 level of German and is interested in doing a job shadowing in the German school Gymnasium Sanitz, with which she is currently developing an eTwinning project. The election of our teachers has been based on their willingness to travel abroad and take part in European mobility projects. We would like our teachers to participate in the following activities:1) Physical Education teacher: The training course chosen is for teachers who have a B1+ or B2 level of English and want to develop their skills (especially their oral fluency, vocabulary and pronunciation). Participants will improve their English skills as a mean of communicating in class and in everyday situations. We hope that this course will also help our teacher to improve his English in order to be able to participate in further Erasmus+ courses and/or partnerships. The program offers a mix of English-focus classes, workshops, visits to places of interest and socio-cultural activities.2) Visual Arts teacher: The training course chosen is for teachers who would like to teach subjects in English (CLIL) through an Inquiry-based methodology. She will learn English strategies for communication and specific vocabulary for the subject, practical ideas for lesson management and planning, and will develop didactic materials. The course provides the planning of joint activities among participants in the program, an opportunity for the exchange of experiences and ideas with colleagues from different educational centers in Europe and the possibility for their participants to find partners for future communication and exchange projects, both individual and institutional.3) German and English teacher: Job shadowing in the German school Gymnasium Sanitz with which we are developing an eTwinning project. Our teacher would enjoy the opportunity to meet and interact with teachers, head teachers or principals, experts, advisors, etc.; to experience a different school culture; to observe innovative approaches of learning; and to network and possibly form reliable partnerships leading to possible Key Action 2 projects. This will support the European Dimension of Education of our project, giving our school a more international approach. Once these activities have been completed, the three participating teachers will be in charge of conveying all their experiences to the school faculty. They will present the results of their training in the meetings held with all the members of the teaching staff as well as the meetings held with the members of the different departments. We will create work groups and we will analyze all the compiled materials. The project will be developed throughout the school year 2016/2017 and we hope to take part in more projects for the following school year 2017/2018 with teachers from other departments and subjects. We hope that throughout this project we will be able to increase the quality of our teaching practice, the number of non-linguistic subjects taught in English and the application of new methodologies that could implement key skills in our students and motivate them. The long term benefits we hope to achieve throughout this project are: to reach a quality multilingual education, to have qualified teachers, to have experience in the development of European programs of training and job shadowing, to develop possible strategic partnerships with schools from other countries and to apply more innovative methodologies in our classrooms, which reflect the most recent studies and developments in the teaching of foreign languages.
