Demokratik Okuldan Demokratik Topluma
Start date: Dec 31, 2015, End date: Dec 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

It is aimed to create a democratic school culture based on democracy , human rights and consensus by starting from kindergarten and in all parts of the formal education. Democracy can be developed and carried on by people who understand and adopted it. And the task of growing up such people is done primarily by family, education institution and environment. Schools have great importance to get children understand democracy and learn school culture by experiencing instead of memorizing what democracy is. Trying to teach democracy through interdisciplinary become insufficient on the field of practise. And also not being able to get enough support by parents cause to deficiency in school studies. Although the same curriculum is being used in all around the country , school and democracy culture show some differences from region to region. Studies to adopt democracy culture which will be done with the cooperation of our managers, teachers and parents will have an important role in increasing of our institutions’ qualifications. By growing up individuals behaving according to democracy not only make our school environments more qualified but also will get the substructure ready for society development. In terms of democratic school culture, we do not have ideal schools in our region and we know that this notion was born in Europe. Therefore we want to observe the issues such as how the European schools managed to place the notion of democracy and established the cooperation between school – parents, school administration – teachers and students– teachers. Due to these reasons, we choose 2 schools and 2 local authorities as partners from European Union program countries which are good in respect of democracy. First of all, we plan to do job shadowing at these schools. We observe every detail and take notes about how the students behave in classrooms, at recess, cafeteria, school garden, gym and the library. And then we organize a workshop and ask the teachers and the school administration to make us presentations in the matter of rules of the school, student discipline regulations, cooperation with local authorities and other institutions, projects of the school about democracy, democratic school culture, classroom management, seminars for parents etc. We also ask presentations from parents and tell us behaviors against their children at home from cradle to the start of the school. According to their capacity 1 or 2 person from each consortium member schools will attend mobility activities and the number of our staff will be totally 41. Seven consortium member secondary schools are far from city center and they have same social economic environment with eachother. In order to carry out the project efficiently our participants from each consortium member schools will be assigned to these three teams: Logistic Support Team, Strategic Planning and Evaluation Team and Dissemination Team. During and after the project participants will be able to transfer their experiences to their professional lives and they will share these experiences with other teachers and managers. So, influence of the project will be expanded. When participants attend the job shadowing, they can observe democratic class, students and teachers' behaviors, different methodologies and examples of new and good practice that makes their career development better. Experiences that participants get abroad will affect them positively and make firstly themselves then others -teachers, students and parents- more eager to adopt and build democratic environment. Students will become democratic individuals who participate in the learning process actively, take responsibility ,express their views easily, searchers, questioners in the democratic classrooms that will be created. In the schools they visited, participants will observe implemented projects about school culture ,school parents cooperation, democratic approach in the school and society. So ,they will have the chance to transfer these best practices to their own schools. At he end of the Project, the booklet called’Democratic School Democratic Society ‘and the short film ‘Living Democracy’s CDs will be given all the school in the city. So, project’s intellectual outputs will be disseminated. When the mobility activities are completed , dissemination seminars will be held with the participation of managers ,teachers and parents from all the schools in the province.
