Demokracja w dzialaniu
Start date: May 1, 2011,

Project is a National Youth Initiative that will take place in two Polish coast cities - Wejherowo and Gda´nsk from May toSeptember 2011 (in total: 153 days). The main object of the project is to involve young people from these two cities into actionsfocused on promoting participatory democracy. The initial cause for our actions is a current public debate on introducing aCitizens Resolution-Proposing Initiative (Obywatelska Inicjatywa Uchwa¬odawcza). The Initiative will give common citizens aright to propose resolutions to the city council. The initiative was already accepted in Gda´nsk but as the amount of mandatorysignatures is very high – 2000 votes – it needs to be corrected. Wejherowo still lacks the approval. This situation demandsto involve young people into actions promoting participatory democracy, to learn more about it’s mechanisms and deepenawareness of the importance of a civil society. These are the the goals of our project. At the same time our work can rationallycontribute to pursue these changes which would be a great lesson of participatory democracy in practice. We want youngpeople to learn that they also are responsible for their local community and have tools to pursue changes.Actions planned are civil democracy workshops, artistic happenings, collecting signatures on the streets, open debates withlocal people and authorities and creating a promotion campaign. All the participants (8 people between 18-30 years old) will beequally involved in decision making, preparing and implementing the project.
