Share our values to create a better world.
The Álfaheiði preschool´s vision is based on the life skills educational program Living Values, wich involves enhancing social skills and moral development by using positive values in communication and interactions with people and nature. Peace, respect, love, responsibility, tolerance, cooperation, happiness, freedom, honesty, simplicity, humility and unity are the values that our work is based upon and is entrenched in all our work. Values education is based on The Convention on the Rights of the Child and is independent from religion, gender and the physical attributes of children.
The main goal of the project is to:
-further strengthen our work by seeking knowledge and inspiration to Europe, by visiting other values based schools in Britain,The Netherlands and Sweden, and attend two separate courses on Living Values in Britain and Greece in the next two years.
-strengthen each member of staff in their personal professional development as well as the group as a whole
-give us more strenght and confidence to share and distribute teaching methods that are successful in teaching social skills and communication among children
-Continually develop the values based education of young children
-further adjust values based education to the icelandic preschool environment
-create and join a network of values based schools in Europe
Participants in the project are 12 people: teachers and members of staff at the preschool Alfaheidi, who will visit/job shadow other experienced teacher´s in Europe and attend courses on Values based education.
We are convinced that our participation in the program will make the school´s educators more able to share our values with others, it is also our believe that with these values to guide us, the well being of our pupils and the community as a whole is increased.
