DÉCOUVRIR ET VIVRE SA CITOYENNETÉ EUROPÉENNE
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our students live in “la Mayenne”, which is a rural administrative division away from major cultural and economic centers. This project is the opportunity to discover other countries, cultures and means of transport. They need to imagine Europe, our area is away from European borders, and our students have no or very few contacts with Europeans. It is essential that they should be confronted with this reality in a view of opening their minds. Our students have an intermediate level in languages. They respond very little to these subjects because they seldom use foreign languages. They realize it is an essential means of communication when they are abroad. This is the reason why, for 9 years, we have developped the taste of our students for foreign countries. This program is linked to the cultural and vocational goals we set ourselves. The experience of the previous placements in countries such as Lithuania, Poland, Bulgaria and Spain have exceeded our initial goals ( in terms of motivation for following international news, improved abilty to link up with professional networks, personal autonomy, responsabilities taken). The “BAC pro” section (vocational training) and CAP PE section (basic vocational training for infant schools ) we have a five weeks mobility. The “BAC pro” are available in september and october while the CAP PE are available in march and april. These placements are compulsory to validate their exams. We will keep a careful eye on the teaching contents and relationships in placements. The goals for our students are as follows : • Being aware that foreign languages are essential; in their professional and personal relationships participants get in touch with people who can speak up to five languages. • Discovering Bulgarian language, getting to know Cyrillic alphabet. • Valuing Spanish and German which have become compulsury under the new “BAC pro” reform ( a three-year training period now) • Planning further studies with more assets. • Finding about varied, and sometimes different from ours, working techniques. • Studying new working organisations, working hours, legislation and management techniques which vary • Increasing cultural, social, law and economic knowledge. • Discovering European job market and its opportunities. • Develop students autonomy and their ability to take initiatives. • Making students aware of European citizenship. We are planning trips for 28 students who will stay for two and a half weeks ( boys and girls from 17 to 20 year old) on a two-year period. Adults will stay with the “CAP Vente” (vocational training for shop assistants) on a permanent basis. Employers take competent workers. Our goal is to develop better skills for our students on the European job market. Our trainings have to link directly to their needs. The previous experiences have helped our students to achieve higher education ( BTS) and to join companies. European mobility gives them added value. Transport jobs have developped with the enlargement of the EU. Students have to know legislation and economic implications in order to organize best the different meabs of transport. The “CAP PE” students discover another European way of organizing work with young children ( from 1 to 6 year old). As a consequence they gain on a personal and professional level. Students discover the characteristics of children, organizations, diplomas, and vocational qualifications. They gain more autonomy, adaptability, they do team work and get information on the current state of the country. Organizations for young children recruit dyjnamic professionals and people qualified to manage projects. Food shops in our region want qualified professionals ( who know product characteristics and can argue, hygiene and safety regulations). It is a fact that the students who followed the previous programs are more efficient and mobile. The original teaching team (from 2003, N. CAHAREL, C. BEHUET and I. ROBIN), which committed itself to this program, keeps thriving on this project and made other colleagues feel like joining them : F. BEAUDET, V. BERNARD, L. LECHAT, and M. RONCERAY for the “CAP Vente” section in 2009 (vocational training for shop assistants) I. QUENTIN for the Young Children section (in 2011). Students get some feedback, in their lessons, from the placements and collaborations of previous years, especially in economics and legislation, and in professional subjects. They do case studies on issues such as : placements of European employees in France, working conditions, the influence of Eastern transport companies in our economies. Moreover, the teachers built up personal links with local associations and the partners of this program. Our open-mindedness, our team work, our will to innovate, to work differently, to discover other professional techniques have given us a ten-year experience in this program and we want to share our European citizenship with other students.
