PROJECT
FINISHED
Our project started off with the idea of finding ways of developing the anti-bullying policy in our school, along with handling pupils’dropping off and pupils’ learning difficulties. A few English teachers were part of the project and they were eager to observe English-teaching abroad too.Our aim was to find different ideas or strategies that coud inspire us and that we could import.
This ERASMUS+ project being our first one, we decided to make it simple : 10 members of staff from the same school ( deputy-head, 6 teachers [3 in English,1 in Art, 1 in Maths and 1 library teacher],nurse, accountant and a supervisor) off to Finland for 1 week from April 17th til April 23rd 2016 to become more familiar with a successful school system. We took part in the session led by English Matters, a Spain-based company. We attended seminars and we went on a guided tour in Helsinki so as to discover Finnish history and culture as well as its school system. We also visited several schools with different levels and we attended classes. We were given the opportunity to meet Finnish teachers and headmasters to share our experiences and question them about their system. As a result of these visits and meetings, we have been able to discuss and reflect about our own school and our own methods and strategies and see what could inspire us.
We have reached our goal : we have all found inspiration from what we have observed, it has made us reconsider some of our actions to include new strategies as far as anti-bullying is concerned . We have established contacts with schools in Spain, Finland and Greece. An exchange of letters and a video project with 4 classes in our school has been set up. We have experienced some of the activities we had observed and exploited softwares we discovered there. Our school nurse has discovered the health school service. We have organised presentations to inform our colleagues in our school and share our experience, which has led to interesting discussions and questioning about our own methods.
