Data security at the vocational college "Berufskolleg West"
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project 'Data security at the vocational college "Berufskolleg West" ' is a teacher training programme for two members of staff in the field of data security and IT competencies at schools. Due to the changes on the economic and social scale the Berufskolleg West der Stadt Essen, a vocational college in the heart of the Ruhr Area, has the responsibility to maintain this business location and its competitiveness. Therefore, the Berufskolleg West pursues its course of internationalization through the development of human resources. The teachers develop their job-related competence, intercultural competence as well as language competence. After the training they will work as multipliers for their colleagues to integrate their skills and competencies both into the curricula and school organization. This is also part of the quality management at the vocational college. The participants will get competencies how to use IT and new media at schools. They will critically reflect on their use and take into account data safety aspects. Additionally, they will deal with legal issues and how to integrate new media as well as data security aspects didactically and methodically into lessons (mobile devices, social networks). They will also get to know the impact on and potential for schools. The participants will get intercultural impressions and develop their European understanding with regard to education and the exchange of information as well as open learning resources. Finally, the experience made in the training will not only illustrate a didactically appropriate usage of IT and internationalization but also the problems of IT-usage within lessons and the opportunities how to meet the challenges of problems. It will significantly improve lessons and sensitize both teachers and students for data security.
