CY.P.R.U.S (Cyprus – Poland – Romania – UK – Spain)
Start date: Aug 23, 2014, End date: Dec 31, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

"CY.P.R.U.S", a multilateral youth exchange implemented within the framework of Key Action 1, took place over 9 days in Agros, Cyprus. The young participants, originating from Cyprus, Poland, Romania, UK and Spain, were carefully chosen in order to include ethnic and other minorities and had been exploring the history, culture, traditions and politics of all countries involved, thus allowing all backgrounds to blend in in a harmonious way and reach the desirable outcome. The main objective of the exchange had been to provide a forum for diverse cultures to come together and have recognition for similarity and appreciation of difference, while simultaneously fostering and encouraging personal and social development through interaction on an intercultural level, empowering young people to be active citizens and have an increased sense of belonging to Europe. A wide range of non-formal learning methods was achieved through Arts, Sport, Drama, cultural visits and a community project. The working programme used informal learning in the form of discussions, games, group activities, etc. focusing on new ways of discovering their own history, sharing it with their peers and learning from their respective countries. The programme implementation had been partly in hands of the participants themselves, as well as trainers providing input and guidance through the method of experiential learning. The preparation, implementation, evaluation and follow up have been coordinated by the leaders and organisations of each country. This project prioritised tackling the issue of citizenship, youth participation, cultural diversity and inclusion at their most basic level. By improving cultural self-awareness and developing interpersonal skills in a multicultural environment, young people are better able to gain confidence to stand up for themselves, be more active, resist peer pressure and xenophobia, be more goal oriented and view life as a positive, meaningful experience. In turn, these young people will act as multipliers among their peers, who in the long turn will become better citizens.
