From our vision of learning a second language we know the essence of a natural process of language acquisition. Students are acquiring a new language naturally by hearing and copying this language. Language knowledge and skills are transferable by the first on the second language and vice versa.
At the same time, the control of multiple languages creates a gateway to ' intercultural awareness '. Language acquisition takes place optimally when there is an authentic learning environment created. A learning environment in which the use of the target language is necessary and natural. This can especially been created when you make the step from
‘English lessons’ to ‘teaching in English’ (content learning).
On the Jozefschool we want to work on teaching CLIL. The main objective of the project is to follow a metologie and language course in England.
The English Teacher Training Programme (ETTP) helps us to improve the quality of English. Teachers are trained and immersed in the English language. 8 of our teachers have taken the FCE. 4 teachers are currently being trained for the FCE exam in 2015. The principle is that everyone is doing the exam. In addition to the course prior to the exam (ETTP), we see it as a great value that the teachers themselves professionalize in an exchange program (in United Kingdom). Teachers are immersed for 5 days in the English language and make visits to English schools.
Participants improve their language skills and learn teaching skills to teach in English. That can lead to improvement in the labor market. Participants are open to other ways of teaching.
