Crossing Borders: Sharing communities in times of migration
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Jan 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Youth Educational Center LidiceHaus has been active in international youth work for a long time: together with partner organisations from Czech Republic, Poland, Croatia, Bosnia, Israel and Turkey, volunteer and professional youth workers (39 in total, of which at least 8 can be considered socially disadvantaged) will get together from October 26-31, 2016, to discuss current questions and challenges with regard to "Refugees and Migration".Public discourses in all participating countries show that migrants are still marked as "Others" in national memories and histories and only play a very minor role in defining the "We" of society. Even young people that have been living in Europe for two generations are still considered as migrants. Questions of belonging and participation in society for ALL youngsters - and associated inclusive concepts - can be seen as main challenges in European youth work. In the course of the great flow of refugees from Middle Eastern and certain African countries towards Europe (particularly during the last year), state borders have been shut down which currently has very dramatic effects for the refugees - and is threatening the "Project Europe".The aim of our internatioal seminar is the transnational exchange of experiences and good-practice-examples. Based on this exchange, we want to develop (further) concepts and methods for inclusive youth work. In this respect, we want to concentrate on the handling of narratives of "conflict" and "crisis" and the countering of national and right-wing populist tendencies. Apart from a review of the discursive and social status quo concerning refugees and migration in the different states, it is the main goal of the seminar to discuss and ascertain common values as well as the European dimension. In particular, human rights education and constructive (European) visions for the future shall be strengthened. In the seminar, all partners will offer own workshops and additional experts will be invited. The seminar consists of a diverse mix of inputs, exercises, workshops as well as an excursion. The results of the seminar will be made public for further networking via a digital manual.
