Cross-border initiative for the protection and revitalization of environment biodiversity using autoctonous breeds (APRO)
Start date: Mar 31, 2011, End date: Mar 30, 2013 PROJECT  FINISHED

This Project is dedicated to the protection of autoctonous/native breeds which are strictly linked to the territory where they live i.e. to the historical and geographical area of Istria on both the Croatian and the Slovenian side, where state borders and division of the territory represent an obstacle that can be minimized by the finance scheme of this cross-border collaboration programme. Expected Results: This project will establish a balance in the ecosystem by restoring extensive – pasture-haymaking breeding, particularly of native breeds (Istrian cattle, goat, sheep and donkey). It will also raise the awareness of the inhabitants and the public in the rural cross-border region of the importance of biodiversity and pointing to the consequences of the loss of native breeds in our everyday lives.
