CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION FLANDRE - DUNKERQUE - COTE D'OPALE
Start date: Dec 31, 2009, End date: Dec 30, 2013 PROJECT  FINISHED

The border remains an obstacle to territorial integration and the emergence of a cross-border living area.To overcome this obstacle, the partners pay special attention to deepening the links between socio-economic stakeholders, the knowledge of political and administrative systems of the neighbouring country and the development of contacts and exchanges between citizens. This way, they hope the residents of the French-Belgian coast will develop a cross-border identity, and aim to build a strong, future-oriented intercultural dynamic. Achievements: The Voorbij de kleuren manual(beyond the colours) is a reference work on global and intercultural learning, aimed at Dutch- and French-speaking people. 7,000 copies were printed, and it offers both a theoretical framework and many examples of good practices, and it is particularly useful for primary education teachers in France and Belgium.During the four year project, 12 training sessions were jointly organised in the cross-border area. This way, 314 teachers were trained in development education and discovered initiatives and learning tools in the cross-border area to make students aware of intercultural and global citizenship.Tools on positive diversity, currently available in Dutch and in French, are the Senegal design kit, the India kit and the Bouba in Senegal exhibition. Diversity walks were developed by both organisations.Because the project was primarily aimed at adults, a role play game was developed, which could be played in the India and Senegal immersion workshops by both young people and adults.
