Search for European Projects

Créer des liens et ouvrir les esprits vers l'Europe, mieux enseigner l'anglais
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

We are 3 teachers, teaching in a little kindergarten, in a small town, in the south-west of France. This town has a rather low socio-economic level. There are people from many différent countries (most of them are from Portugal, Spain, Morocco and France). Our project has come from 2 realities that we 've noticed in the 3 schools (16 teachers) of our town: 1- It's difficult for us to teach English in our schools 2- We have too many incidents with our pupils ( and their parents too) due to intolerance between the different communities Based on these facts, we have written an European Development Plan . Here are the goals of this plan: - to help the different communities of our town to meet each other - to make our pupils understand the reason why it's important to learn English - to make them hear different foreign langages - to develop the European spirit : to make our pupils understand that even if children come from different countries in Europe, sometimes far from their own country, even if they speak a different langage, they are like us and we can work together. - to help the teachers to speak better English - To find new methods and tools to teach English - To get a better knowledge of the other cutlures of Europe We have planned different actions to reach our goals: - We have organized exhibitions at school, at the cinema and in the town museum to encourage the parents to meet each other to see art produced by their children. - We have planned to invite people from other countries to read to our pupils some stories in their native langage. - We have looked for European partners on etwinning to work together on a common project : we are working with many pupils from 16 different countries all over Europe and we created a Virtual European Exhibition of the children's art productions. We needed English to communicate and that has motivated our pupils to learn English. We wish that all our colleagues were interested in this kind of project. - We have planned a workshop to Ireland for one of us : to help her to speak better English and to learn new methods about how to teach a foreign langage. She could share with us her new knowlege when she comes back: about methods, tools and Irish culture. To organise such a project, to follow it through and to figure the impact on our professional practice, we often meet with all our colleagues. Here are the items we have chosen to evaluate the project: - The language level of the teachers when they speak English - The variety of the methods and the tools used in our professional practice to teach English - The number of the European projects that we submit or that we take part in - the variety of the tools used to communicate with our European partners - The language level of the pupils when they speak English at the end of kindergarten then at the end of primary school - The number of incidents at school due to intolerance We hope that eventually teachers will find it easier to teach English thanks to their improved English and thanks to new methods and tools provided by this project. We hope that more teachers will soon take part in Euopean projects with their pupils thus they will be able to understand how rich such exchanges can be, and how important and interesting It can be to learn English. Our pupils will be more tolerant with the feeling of being more than French, of being European.
