Creative Collisions
Start date: May 31, 2016, End date: May 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Aim:To discuss and debate how the shifting economic situation in England impacts on the way services for young people are planned, delivered and evaluated. To enable this debate we need a structured framework for a national dialogue that reflects the diversity of the youth sector whilst offering wider opportunities for young people to engage, in a range of different formats and activities. Objectives:To provide a series of 'feeder' activities/consultations/events that focus young people and youth workers in coming together in May 2016 for Creative Collisions - a major event with key policy leaders, politicians, funders and sector influencer's joining together with young people an youth workers to co-produce a new narrative for young people. To inform and challenge decisions and policy makers on the basis of current evidence-based research and 'What Works' to help them shape policy and funding strategies for the next 5 years.Too raise awareness of European youth policy and its potential impact on young people in the up coming referendum on Europe 2017.To empower young people to gain and maintain a voice at the heart of policy and decision- making.Description:We are applying for a contribution that can enable the participation of 400 young people in a national policy dialogue, culminating in a national conference Creative Collisions, that will bring together young people and policy makers, due to take place in May 2016. As part of our activities, we are organising a number of feeder events. Methodology:NCVYS has been the lead partner in the phenomenally successful national Creative Collisions conferences (2013, 2014), which energised over 500 and 800 delegates respectively. The conference provides a unique space and opportunity to share ideas and create something unexpected with and for young people, as it draws together the force of ten youth organisations and networks; British Youth Council, the Foyer Federation, Leap Confronting Conflict, London Youth, National Citizen Service (NCS), NUS, National Youth Agency (NYA), UK Youth and vInspired. The conference engages key sector decision makers, practitioners, politicians and young people to debate the current issues they face. Through the power of collective action, the conference showcases key successes; evidence based practice and sends vital messages to all, that investment in young people is necessary, and pays. In 2016 we are seeking to engage more young people and to do this we have developed the Youth Management Board, which is an existing, effective and diverse group of young people who are chosen and recruited from their wider involvement in the youth sector. They, in partnership with the above organsaitions will deliver Creative Collisions with an audience of 1000+ and up to 400 young people actively engaged in the debates and discussions created. Impact:Informed decision making based on sound 'what works' research which can be both qualitative and quantitativeYoung people placed firmly in the driving seat of youth policyA defined supportive network of young people engaged in leading the debate on the European referendum in 2017
